Posted by Nicolas on 5th Nov 2017

On November 5th, 2017, the Junior Chamber of the city of Kawasaki organized an attempt to break the world record for the largest number of people making Onigiri rice balls simultaneously. This was part of the three-day Kawasaki city festival.

The members of the Junior Chamber wanted to celebrate the fact that the concept of triangular Onigiri was invented in Kawasaki at the time when a large number of people travelled the Tokaido route by foot in ancient times.

To count for the world record each Onigiri had to have a minimum size and weight and the umeboshi inside should not be visible from the outside. The time to complete 2 Onigiri was set to five minutes. The umeboshi plums were provided by CHINRIU HONTEN.

1876 people completed onigiri rice balls within the specifications, which was new world record!

After inspection of the Onigiri rice balls all participants enjoyed a delicious snack, and it was fun to see so many people enjoying Japanese classic simultaneously.
