Japanese bowls are mostly used for tea or a number of popular Japanese dishes. "Chawan" (tea bowls) is the name for large bowels commonly used to serve tea. Mid-size bowls are used for miso soup, and larger sizes bowls are a good option for rice (donburi), noodle and noodle soup, and large soup dishes. There is a large variation of colors, shapes, designs and materials, including ceramic, porcelain, lacquer, or wood. They are often decorated with intricate patterns that reflect Japanese culture and aesthetics.
