Designer Tomohiro Ikegaya was born in Shizuoka prefecture and studied architecture. He worked as a  musician and at a designing company before launching goodbyemarket in 2011. Through this brand he focussed on creating products that would enhance communication between people from all over the world.

Although born in the prefecture of Mount Fuji, he grew up in a mountainous area where he could not see Mt. Fuji. When he left Shizuoka after graduating from high school, he therefore became even more interested in Mt. Fuji and its significance in Japan and Japanese culture.

When starting to live in Tokyo he discovered the gap between "people who are too accustomed to seeing Mt. Fuji" and "people who, like himself, eagerly want to see Mt. Fuji". This inspired him to create new designs with Mt. Fuji as main theme.

In 2010, just before climbing Fuji for the first time in his life, he crafted the first item. Over 10 years later, his cute Fuji designs are a bit hit with many tourists and Japan enthusiasts in and outside of Japan.
