400 Years of INDEN - Where Deerskin Meets Japanese Lacquer
INDENYA has for many years been a big name in the Japanese craft and fashion industry. Founded in 1582, this unique company has a history of over four centuries and is still run by the 13th generation of the same family from their hometown in Yamanishi. The history of deer skin leather as the preferred leather in Japan dates all the way back to the 4th century. It’s softness, flexibility and sturdiness were perfect to craft the armor of Samurai, which had to combine many different sections and required material that was strong, yet light and stretching enough to move around in. Even now, deer leather is still highly appreciated due to its soft touch and durability. INDENYA’s craftsmen are all high-skilled, experience crafters who hand-make and inspect every single item before it leaves their warehouse. Their line-up includes everything from large backs to small accessories in a wide range of colors and patterns inspired by traditional kimono designs, flowers and nature. They have feminine, masculine and unisex designs, and beautiful limited edition collections that change over time.
