Kurikyu Odate Bentwood Award Winning Decorative Bent Plates
Description
Each bent plate is made of a single sheet of bentwood to create a unique design embracing the Japanese principle of simplicity. It made using traditional Japanese bentwood work techniques but it looks very modern and adds atmosphere to any table decoration. This deco plate is perfect to serve an hors-d'oeuvre or a desert. The plates fit into each other and require very little space for storage.
Please wash the plates with cold or lukewarm water after use. Remove oil with a mild detergent and use a soft sponge and dry it with a soft cloth. They are not suitable for the dishwasher.
For this beautiful and very practical design this plate also received the Good Design Award.
Japanese Odate Bentwood work is made of Japanese cedar cut into very thin slices. The wood is cooked in boiling water until it becomes flexible so that it can be bended into various shapes. The end pieces of the bentwood are fixed together with dark cherry bark, which not only makes a nice dark accent on the light wood but also creates a durable and natural bond.
Kurikyu Bentwood is known for its high quality Bentwood work typical for the city of Odate in northern Japan. The company is run by Shunji Kurimori who represents the sixth generation of proprietors. He received many awards for his craft and also exhibited in many countries outside of Japan.
