TOMIOKA SHOTEN
Modern Style Japanese Tea Container with Maple Wood BIRD'S EYE
Modern Style Japanese Tea Container with Maple Wood BIRD'S EYE
Description
This is a contemporary adaptation of Japanese traditional cherry bark craft. Instead of coating a wooden core with cherry bark this tea container has been coated with maple wood. Only one of 2000 maple trees shows the characteristic woodgrain called "bird's eye". The natural beauty of this pattern is emphasized through the simple contract of the colored band.
Kabazaiku is a uniquely Japanese art form that used the national tree, Sakura, and turns its bark into beautiful, long lasting products. There are about five companies remaining who still master the traditional, complex art form that was passed down from generation to generation. One of these companies is TOMIOKA SHOTEN.
