Kari kari ume are a traditional snack made from unripe plums. Unlike umeboshi, which are soft and juicy, the kari kari ume are hard and crunchy, making a "kari kari" (Japanese onomatopoeia) sound when you're eating it. They are therefore less intense and salty than regular umeboshi and a popular snack for on the road, especially as they are said to help against nausea! 

The red plums are pickled in red shiso for a unique flavor balance. They also are great with cocktails as alternative to olives.
