In ancient time most chopsticks had an oval shape as it better fits the human hand although it requires more effort to make them. The Indutrial Research Center of Ishikawa prefecture recently tried to revive the production of oval chopsticks as part of the effort to revitalize Japanese traditions.


Once you used oval chopsticks you never want to miss the strong grip and the comfortable feeling anymore.
Not only the shape is special on these chopsticks but also the applied lacquer technique. The so-called "Makiji" technique uses powder made of earthenware to fix the lacquer on the wooden core. This technique, as well as the multiple layers of lacquer, make these chopsticks very solid and durable. Over time they will gain luster and you will enjoy using them more and more.
