"笑う門には福来る" (warau kado ni ha fukukitaru), meaning: Good Fortune and Happiness will come to the Home of those who Smile"; A phrase similar to the English "Laugh and Grow Fat!". This traditional Japanese saying is used in a word-play in this KUME design where Mr. Ebisu drops back surprised upon catching a "fugu" puffer fish - which name sounds familiar to the word "fuku" luck!

Loved by the people of Edo - The seven gods of fortune, loved by the people of Edo, are comically depicted in "Luck Comes to the Gate of Laughter". The surprise of Mr. Ebisu, who caught a puffer fish (fortune) instead of a sea bream, can be conveyed from one fingertip. It is a very auspicious piece that selects the cloisonne crest from the picture model drawn by Hokusai and adds it to the background. On the left chest a "hundred" mark is printed that is said to be a work that is very close to the exquisite brush, and it is also stamped on the Fujikoshi Dragon map, which beautifully depicts the ascension of a dragon with black clouds beyond Fuji.

Katsushika Hokusai was a Japanese artist for Ukiyo-e woodblock prints, which' works are celebrated all over the world for their beautiful portrayal of Japanese aestethics. Sharing their birthplace of Tokyo, and admiring Hokusai's art and lifestyle, KUME dedicated one of their collections to Hokusai's works. Their high quality printing skills and ink make the patterns come alive, making for unique t-shirts to express your passion for Japan and Japanese arts.
