ORII uses the imagination of the craftsman to create infinite, magical colors and patterns.
Matal plate in the hands of skilled artisans undergo unending metamorphosis inexplicably transformed into an Orii original that can't be found elsewhere.
This art uses a traditional coloring technique that creates a new expression on copper and other metal materials. Cultivated in 400 years of tradition, Takaoka in Toyama Prefecture is a town where advanced casting technology is concentrated.
The coloring is not "Coloring" is not painting, it is a traditional technique that uses the corrosiveness of copper and brass to control chemicals and flames to produce vivid colors. The craftsman has developed a traditional coloring technique that could only be expressed with cast products, and have succeeded in developing colors on thin copper plates of 1 mm or less. He is particular about the authentic colors drawn from copper and brass and continue to pursue possibilities.
The color of metal gives a sense of nostalgia even though it is modern.
The metal crafts and materials created by Orii have an aesthetic sense that is similar to the Japan's "wabi sabi" (a way of living that focuses on finding beauty within the imperfections of life and accepting peacefully the natural cycle of growth and decay.???). It gives peace and calm to every space and scene.
Color Technique:
Orii artificially generates the characteristics of copper and other metal materials such as corrosion and rust, creating a unique texture and color.
Cook color:
The metal is stewed in a saucepan with a mixture of copper sulfate and copper carbonate to develop a color called "simmering color".
Bran-yaki:
The dough is coated with bran miso and baked on a burner. After the bran, it becomes a pattern.
